Statement

Goal

After working with your apprentice Tom on a very bizarre electrical installation, you are about to turn on the power to carry out the final checks. As a professional, you labelled all switches beforehand and made sure they were off before you disconnected the power supply.

However during the intervention, Tom flipped the switches all over the place! Fortunately, you had asked him to take notes, so you should be able to find out which equipment will trigger when the power supply is turned back on.

Switches can be mounted in series or in parallel. For a circuit to be on, all switches in series must be on and at least one switch for each parallel derivation must be on.

Wiring description is a space-delimited sequence of:
• the - character followed by the identifiers of the switches mounted in series
• the = character followed by the identifiers of the switches mounted in parallel
Each SWITCH has a unique label.

Eg. for the following circuit:

Hello, you might be right, the right level should be set to "medium" difficulty. I don't think this ranks as difficult. Does anyone else have a feeling about this?

I'd expect the zero-switch case (validator "Tow lights") to be a test too (not only a validator) especially for the easy category. This is just a remark. I don't know if others agree. I'll approve this nice puzzle once other problems are fixed anyway.

I agree this one is tricky because the "zero actions" use case is not covered by public tests, but I find it adds a little salt if one does not read carefully the puzzle constraints :)

The default code for Clojure throws an exception, but other than that I don't think there are any glaring issues with this puzzle. Regarding the goal statement, there are a few things I might consider changing. First, having "...all switches in series must be on..." instead of "... switches in series must be all on..." on line 5 of the goal statement. Second, I might add something about how circuits can have multiple sets of switches in series or in parallel. When I attempted to solve the puzzle I initially assumed that there would only be one set of switches in series and one set of parallel switches and had to make a few tweaks to my solution when I reached the later test cases, but I could attribute that misunderstanding to me not reading the goal statement closely enough. Overall a very nice puzzle. Once the Clojure default code issue is fixed and the goal statement is polished up a little more you can count on my vote for approval,

Hello, thanks for your comment, I rephrased accordingly for the first point, but for the second point, I agree this can be attributed to assumptions that further test cases will clear up ;-) For the Clojure part, I don't know how to fix it as it seems related to the stub generator. The Clojure code that gets generated does not consume the "end of line" character when reading integer into C or A. As a result, the next "read-line" returns an empty string and inputs get mixed up. Below is a sample to illustrate this. If you remove the comments before "(read-line)", the code works. I don't see how I can fix this. For your circuit ascii art, I would suggest that you close the circuit, e.g. add a line from the right end to the left of the power supply.

I see your point but I did not want to make it too complex. I could replace the power supply line with something like `[POWER SUPPLY]==+------------------------------------+` The purpose of the long "------------------------------------" cable is to close the circuit. The "==" caracters could symbolise the fact that the power supply has two terminals (actually as many as necessary).

Nice problem, a few typos here and there. * Switches may participate to multiple circuits >>> "in" multiple circuits. (I don't think this sentence is necessary to begin with though.) * name of the [[EQUIPEMENT]] and wiring description >> extra "E" in EQUIPEMENT Also one clarification issue: using [[IDENTIFIER]] was a little confusing to me. I think just [[SWITCH]] is fine. If you want to change it, then in the statement you should rephrase "Switch identifiers are unique" to "Each [[SWITCH]] has a unique name." Also in the input, "the switch [[IDENTIFIER]] Tom manipulated" can be "the [[SWITCH]] that Tom toggled." I think toggled is a better word in either case.
